Three picturesque communities make up the school district of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton; the most northern community is nestled at the southern end of Lake Elysian, offering beautiful scenery. Waldorf and Pemberton are both wistful farming communities framed by grain elevators, coffee shops, "Ma and Pa Stores" and many other amenities.

Janesville, Waldorf, and Pemberton offer a variety of services, shops, and restaurants which will meet most needs and wants. All three communities offer relief from hectic city life but also provide convenience as bedroom communities to access larger cities. Waseca, Owatonna, Mankato and Albert Lea offer combinations of shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. Rochester is within easy driving distance giving access to world-renowned medical treatment. Minneapolis and St. Paul are a quick 90-minute drive north with the entertainment of professional sports, symphony orchestras, and an international airport. Residents who live in and around the three communities have sufficient opportunities to play golf, fish in their favorite lake, or participate in community recreation activities. There are numerous service organizations including the Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, Girl Scouts, Knights of Columbus, and Rotary Clubs. All communities have a volunteer fire department. Each community supports local churches representative of many denominations including Lutheran, Catholic, and Methodist. Area towns offer other worship opportunities, convenient to the three communities, which make up the school district.

Some of the richest farmlands in the state of Minnesota are part of the district. The primary crops are corn and soybeans. Dairy and hog operations make up the remainder of the agrarian operations.

Each community celebrates summer celebrations. Janesville's "Hay Daze" consists of a parade, royalty, and other fun family activities. "Pemberton Days" includes a parade, royalty and provides local crafters with an opportunity to show their talents. "Waldorf Days" gives everyone a chance to greet friends and neighbors through planned activities including a tractor pull.
